WesSpur rope climbing kits are a great way to get started climbing trees. They include the equipment needed to climb a tree without spurs, which is essential when the tree being climbed should not be damaged. This year we have revised our climbing kits to offer you more choices of climbing gear and techniques, while saving you money. Choose one of our climbing starter kits and get going right away, or add one of the kit upgrades for a wider range of climbing techniques.
Starter kits contains the bare essentials necessary to get into a tree without using spurs. These kits are intended to be used in the doubled rope technique, and contains the necessary equipment to connect the climbing line to the saddle in the split tail method using either the Blake's Hitch or the French Prusik (aka the VT). This enables the climber to use the body thrust technique as described in the included copy of The Tree Climber’s Companion. While this technique is quite physically demanding, it requires less equipment than other techniques and is less expensive.
The Basic starter kit provides the necessary equipment with the lowest possible price tag. The equipment in this kit is not as comfortable or versatile as that in the Deluxe and Ultra-Light kits, but and meets the same safety standards.
The Deluxe starter kit provides a large step up in comfort and durability. The equipment for this kit is some of the most popular used by professionals, and was selected to provide the most comfortable climbing experience possible.
The Ultra Light starter kit shaves off every ounce possible for the lightest climbing kit we could put together.
Improved in 2009! The Weaver Saddle has been upgraded to the wide-back model which is a more comfortable saddle than is found in many beginner packages. The basic rope climbing starter kit provides equipment that is sturdy and meets industry standards. Ideal for occasional users or limited budgets.

This upgrade to the rope climbing starter kits enables the user to climb in the Single Rope Technique (SRT) using ascenders. This is the easiest rope climbing technique and is usually the preferred technique for long ascents. There are several ways in which the included equipment can be connected and used. In any case the user simply shifts weight from one ascender to the other, advancing the ascender that has no weight on it, thereby making the process of climbing rope just like climbing a ladder. Contains: CMI hand ascender and foot ascender, (choice of right or left), ascender foot strap, 2 quick links, standard figure 8 ascender, 24” nylon runner, and 7 feet of Technora prusik cord in a pre-tied loop.
This upgrade to any of the three rope climbing starter kits enables the user to climb in the secured footlock technique. Although still physically demanding, this technique is more energy efficient for longer ascents than the body thrust method.
