Friendly crew & on-staff ISA certified arborists provide speedy answers to your gear questions
Arborist blocks are built to sustain shock loading, a situation where the load free-falls momentarily before being caught by the block. This places far more force on the hardware than normal lowering. Arborist blocks have widened cheek plates to protect ropes & an upper sheave to safely attach a rigging sling. Pulleys are not manufactured to handle shock loading and do not have the features necessary for use in tree rigging.
New 3/4” capacity arborist block from CMI. This block can handle 3/4” ropes, and while it has a slightly lower strength than some of the other 3/4” blocks, it has a great price tag and rugged steel design that will make sure this block sees plenty of use. Steel body, swinging side plates, and upper sheave does not come free of the body, ensuring you won't spend time looking for it at the bottom of the tree. Etched with WesSpur logo.
WLL 2,500 lb. Breaking Strength 25,000 lb.
Please not that the first batch we received of these was mistakenly marked with 28,000 lb breaking strength at the manufacturing facility. The actual strength, regardless of marking, for all these blocks is 25,000 lb.

Finally, a bigger arborist block is available at better price. CMI has made a great oversized aluminum block with a maximum capacity of 1” and an impressive MBS of 68,000 lb. and manufacturer working load limit of 13,600 lb - over 6 tons. For years the only 1” we could offer cost almost $500. The 1” arborist block allows you to run your biggest ropes through hardware that can handle similarly big loads. This block from the makers of our bestselling stainless steel arborist block is a big 9.25” x 6” yet weighs in at only 6.6 lb.
The block swings open yet the upper sheave is retained so there is no risk of losing it while installing your sling, and you can fit up to a 1” sling for really big jobs. The lower sheave will give you a proper bend radius for 3/4” and larger rope (though it is a bit tight on 1”). The block features anodized aluminum sideplates, an aluminum sheave, bushing, and stainless steel axle.
