Rock Exotica's Up-Rock carabiners use a push-up and twist gate mechanism, allowing climbers to match gate styles to their existing equipment and gear configurations. If you prefer the classic Rock Exotica pull-down gate, get the standard Rock Auto-lockers.

Auto-lock carabiners are essential for tree work. Rock Exotica's carabiners are among the finest in the world, and built for outstanding performance for the professional. Each carabiner is individually proof-tested and made in the U.S.A.

    Features:
  • Up-Lock (push-up) gate
  • Superior manufacturing
  • Key-lock gate
  • Individually proof-tested

The Pirate Up-Lock carabiner utilizes a push-up and twist gate mechanism, allowing technicians to match gate styles to their existing equipment and gear configurations. As an HMS, or pear-shaped carabiner, the Pirate easily accommodates the use of a wide range of gear, webbing or ropes - either as a belay biner at the harness, or as a connector in a system. The Pirate's robust 0.5" diameter round frame will endure abuse from dirty ropes and metal connectors far beyond stamped carabiners with thin edges. The Pirate's durability matched with Rock Exotica's build quality ensures an impressive service life for the working professional or recreational enthusiast.

The rockD Up-Lock carabiner utilizes a push-up and twist gate mechanism, allowing technicians to match gate styles to their existing equipment and gear configurations. The rockD is the carabiner of choice when seeking the highest strength in a standard-sized aluminum frame. The rockD carabiner serves the broadest range of specialized uses. The rockD in non-lanyard versions, features a flattened, i-beam profile at the bottom and top bends, giving the carabiner a sleek profile, while providing low weight and high strength characteristics.

The rockO upLock carabiner utilizes a push-up and twist gate mechanism, allowing technicians to match gate styles to their existing equipment and gear configurations. The rockO Up-Lock is a blend of the traditional oval and the rockD giving it more strength than the standard oval. This design is great for users that need extra room at the bottom of the carabiner while keeping their gear aligned.

Climbing Carabiner Guidelines

  • Carabiners used to support the climber should have minimum 5,000 lb breaking strength.
  • Life support carabiners should be auto-locking and auto-closing.
  • Carabiner strengths vary greatly when not loaded along the major axis (along the spine).
  • Always verify carabiner gates are closed and locked.

ANSI Z133-2017

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released the ANSI Z133 safety requirements which apply to arboricultural operations.

"Carabiners used in climbing shall be self-closing and self-locking, with a minimum tensile strength of 5,000 pounds (22.24 kN)." - ANSI Z133-2017 8.1.11

The full ANSI Z133 safety requirements are available on our tree care standards page.
