BRANDJail Brake
MAX ROPE CAPACITY18mm (3/4")
WORKING LOAD LIMIT (WLL)1,500 lb

The 5R mini Jail Brake is compact but packs punch. This floating lowering device will hold up to some big drops with smooth lowering. The mini has the same benefits as the standard 7R Jail Brake, but with a slightly lighter WLL due to the limited number of wraps possible. Save your rope, lower smoother and easier than you ever have and stay safer with a 100% visible rope pathway on the front of the device.

The Jail Brake is a floating, friction-based lowering device for use in the tree industry. Its innovative design eliminates the problems that come with using a typical cylindrical-style lowering device like the Port-a-Wrap.

NO MORE ROPE TWISTS: By eliminating the wrapping of the rope around a cylinder, the Jail Brake doesn't produce hockles, rope twists, or kinks. This saves your groundsman time and you money.

SAVE YOUR ROPE: Aluminum construction with engineered venting means the device is one of the most efficient at drawing heat away from your rope. Load isn't concentrated on one part of the device, which means your rope isn't generating nearly as much heat or wear on your equipment.

EASY TO USE AND TEACH YOUR NEW GUYS: No hidden cleats or confusing rope path. Simply make sure the rope is through the top pigtail, around the bottom rung, and out through the bottom pigtail. Easy to see even from up in a tree.

Great idea, but…

by John the Arborist.

I love the concept and was excited to put it to use, but had some issues with the operation.
First, taking out slack and tensioning the line once its set up is really not easy. We found it to be clumsy and difficult, especially in comparison to a port a wrap.
Next, you really can’t remove friction once its loaded. What you set is what you have to work with.
Great idea, but not production worthy, especially for the price.
