Professional's Spur Climbing Kit
The WesSpur Professional's Spur Climbing Kit is built for the tree care professional who needs to climb on tree spikes for removals or rescue. Spiking a tree damages it, and should be avoided on trees that aren't being removed.
The gear in this kit is selected for durability, quality, and function, and to stand up to daily use. This skit gives you the tools you need to work the tree on tree climbing spikes and flipline. Add PPE and a handsaw, and you're ready to get to work.
Safety Note: A second point of connection is required when cutting in the tree. See our Complete Professional's Tree Climbing Kit or use your own rope system to back up the spur kit.
What You Get
The Tree Climbing Harness is the biggest single factor in your comfort while working the tree. This kit gives you two top choices:
The BuckCraft, Buckingham's lightest tree climbing harness to date. The BuckCraft has exceptional comfort with supportive leg pads, a compression-molded back pad, and durable TNX outer shell. Friction buckles on legs and waist strap let you adjust for a perfect fit, while quick-connect buckles make it quick to put on and take off. A dual rope bridge with aluminum ring gives you multiple connection options, and the BuckCraft has plenty of gear loops, rings, and attachment points for suspenders (sold separately).
The Sequoia, Petzl's top of the line tree work harness. A top-tier, professional-grade tree climbing harness, the Sequoia is lightweight and highly supportive. It features an extra-wide, semi-rigid waistbelt and leg loops with FAST automatic buckles for easy operation. Features both a rope bridge and gated attachment points, so you have options for attaching lanyards and climbing ropes. Integrated loops and retainers help organize tools like the CARITOOL or first aid kit.
Other harnesses can be substituted upon request.
Your Spur Climbing setup uses the tried and tested Buckingham steel tree climbing spikes with pads upgraded to the robust and comfortable Big Buck pads. These double-wide pad provide excellent support for long days, with a steel insert to keep the spur shank from biting. This spur climbing setup is comfortable and supportive for long days working removals.
Your flipline is the Maxi-Flip; the best wire-core flipline available. A Flemish splice in the wire core makes this flipline super durable and long lasting. The 5/8" x 12' length is the most common ordered for our customers. A longer or shorter flipline can be substituted by request.
The Flipline Adjuster is the excellent RockGrab 90 from Rock Exotica. This US-made adjuster has an offset eye in the cam, for better positioning and ease of use, and is simple to use. Leaning back puts weight on the cam, and engages it against the flipline. An external spring is easy to inspect and replace.
The Carabiner used in the kit is the top-quality Pirate auto-locker made in the USA by Rock Exotica. This HMS (pear) shape carabiner is ideal for connecting your flipline adjuster, and has the standard Rock Exotica pull-down gate, which is easier to open one-handed or with gloves.
Gear Storage is provided by a large canvas gear bag which will fit the entire kit.
The Tree Climber's Companion, 3rd Edition gives you a handy reference and manual for tying knots, performing a pre-climb inspection, entering the tree, and much more.
It is the user's responsibility to gain adequate instruction in the use of all climbing equipment. Professional training is recommended.

Bought this when I started my tree company love the spurs and Petzl belt the spurs provide a lot of protection for your shins and I have deflected a lot of branches off my pads and didn’t feel a thing I’ve been using them for almost 2 years with no issue
Works GREAT!

Well folks, I've been using this kit for over a couple seasons now. The wire core lanyard is supreme in the pines of the PNW. The rope grab by rock exotica is unimpeded by sap in my experience. The spikes are super comfortable! They were my first pair, so not able to run a comparison, but I've been all over maples, cottonwoods, and fir trees with them and they just work great. I've been aware of keeping them off of concrete and rocks and picked up the magnetic pick guards too. The climbers companion is an invaluable review and resource to read multiple times as well. I read it at least once a year cover to cover. I'm still adjusting my sequoia to fit exactly the way I want; but it's worked great from right out of the box. I've added the rock exotica transporter and been rocking that setup without any issues. It's really comfortable when you set it up to sit right on your legs. I don't go numb or have any issues.
