What you get in the Standard Tree Rigging Kit

Your Tree Rigging Rope is a 150' hank of Samson Stable Braid in 12mm (1/2") diameter. This rope has a working load limit (WLL) of 1,040 lb, making it well suited for common rigging tasks. (For heavier wood, see the Rigging Kit Plus or Big Rig Kit.) Stable Braid is a low-stretch, all-polyester tree rigging rope and is a trusted name in tree rigging. Stable Braid is strong and manufactured with great consistency, so you get the performance you expect every time. Samthane coating on the rope provides the solid blue color for rope ID and enhances abrasion-resistance. If you need more energy absorption in your rigging system, consider swapping Stable Braid out for Nystron. The nylon core in Nystron provides more stretch energy absorption.

Your Arborist Block is the ISC Compact rigging block. This compact pulley weighs only 1 lb, but runs 12mm (1/2") rigging ropes and 16mm (5/8") slings, with 3,800 lb working load limit (WLL). All surfaces are smooth and machined to be rope and textile friendly, making your gear last longer. This popular pulley has a spring-lock; push in, turn, and confirm that the lock is engaged for a super secure connection. This handy pulley is made by ISC in Wales, with top-quality manufacturing and materials.

A Loopie Sling is included to attach your block in the tree without tying knots. This sling is made from 5/8" Yalex rope, which is tough, strong, and flattens to the tree for extra grip. The sling is adjustable in length by pulling the tail through the bury out to a maximum length of 6'. In this size, the Loopie is suitable for use on stems up to roughly 1.75' in diameter. A working load limit (WLL) of 1,692 lb when choked makes it well suited for use with 1/2" Stable Braid and other 1/2" rigging ropes. This sling is hand-made by our in-house splicing company, Iron Street Rope Splicing.

Your lowering device is the Buckingham Small Port-a-Wrap III with nickel-plating. The ground crew takes wraps with the rigging rope around the barrel of the Porty to apply friction to the rigging rope as it runs. This allows for controlled lowering of the wood by a single groundie. Nickel-plating protects the device with a super-durable coating. This size of Port-a-Wrap has a working load limit of 2,400 lb and works with rigging ropes up to 16mm (5/8"). It's a great match for the 1/2" Stable Braid in your kit.

A Dead-Eye Sling is included to attach your Port-a-Wrap at the base of the tree. The eye on the sling is extra-long for easy girth-hitching on your rigging hardware. Use a timber hitch, cow hitch, or other suitable attachment knot. 15' length is long enough to attach to trunks up to about 4' in diameter. This sling has a 1,306 lb Working Load Limit (WLL) choked and is hand-made by our professional rope splicers at Iron Street Rope Splicing.

A Large Rope Bag makes it easy to store and transport your rigging rope and other kit item. Flake the rope in so that it piles on top of itself, and you'll get trouble-free deployment when it's time to work. The rope bag is stiff-walled for easy loading and has plenty of room for your rigging rope, slings, block, and Port-a-Wrap.

Use a Green Log Weight Chart to understand the weights of wood depending on diameter, length, and tree species. (A Green Log Weight Chart is available in the ANSI Z133 standard and other reference books.)
