Double-Locking Carabiners

Double-locking carabiners are a key part of your personal tree climbing system. Climbing carabiners used in a tree climbing or work positioning system must be self-closing and self-double locking, with a 5,000 lb (22.24 kN) load rating along the major axis with the gate closed. (See ANSI Z133-2017 8.2.8.) All carabiners in the climbing system or any system that supports the climber must meet this standard. Even though the carabiner self-closes, and self-double-locks, always confirm carabiners are closed and locked during pre-climb inspection.
