PRODUCT TYPETree Grip

Tree-grip dead-end for 1/4" cable installations. Color-coded yellow.

TREE-GRIP Dead-ends are designed to eliminate the costly labor and time consuming hassle of cable splicing. The factory-formed left hand lay helical legs of the TREE-GRIP Dead-ends wrap quickly around left hand lay extra high strength (EHS) galvanized strands, eliminating the process of splicing common grade galvanized strand. The end result is a labor saving application accomplishable in under 60 seconds.

Made from electrogalvanized steel.

Features

  • Cost Savings: Lets you use EHS galvanized strand while maintaining strength comparable to larger sizes of common grade strand, reducing costs.
  • Strength: TREE-GRIP Dead-ends develop 100% of the published rated breaking strength (RBS) of EHS strands. They are also compatible with common grade, Siemens-Martin, high strength, and utilities grade strands.
  • Thimble-Loop Design: Unique design of the dead-end for the tree care industry prevents thimbles from falling out during installation.
  • Consistent Appearance: Prefabricated design for a professional look on every cabling job.
  • Secure Grip: Helical legs have an inside diameter about 20% smaller than the strand’s outside diameter, providing a strong, secure grip and consistent radial force.

General

Step 1

Apply TREE-GRIP Dead-ends (Cat #'s TG-1250, TG-1251, TG-1252, TG-1253) to extra high strength (EHS) or Common Grade left hand lay (LHL) galvanized steel strand sizes 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8" respectively.

When cabling between two boughs or branches, follow normal installation procedures. Match the correct strand size with the corresponding TREE-GRIP Dead-end, ensuring the strand is left hand lay. Tape the area of the strand to be cut to prevent wire separation during cutting.

Note: The PREFORMED Safety Guy Wire Dispenser (Cat. No. SGD-0700) is recommended when carrying and working with EHS strand.

Step 2

Lay the taped end of the cable in the TREE-GRIP Dead-end’s short leg, slightly above the crossover mark.

Step 3

Wrap the short leg around the EHS strand within two pitch lengths of completion. Pull the legs away from the strand during wrapping to ease application.

Step 4

Insert the correct thimble size into the TREE-GRIP Dead-end’s cabled-loop. Cross the longer leg over the completed shorter leg at the crossover mark to secure the thimble.

Step 5

Continue wrapping the long leg around the strand within two pitch lengths of completion.

Note: To ease wrapping, split each leg into two subsets and wrap each subset individually to completion.

PLP Tip: Ensure all leg ends are properly snapped onto the strand. Improper application may cause the rods to unwind.

Step 6

Completed Application: If less tension is desired within 90 days of initial installation, unwrap both legs within two pitch lengths of the crossover mark. Allow the strand to slide until the desired tension is reached, then rewrap to completion.
