DownRigger
The DownRigger is compact and lightweight, and can be used in the tree or at the base of the rigging setup. When weighted, the DownRigger applies friction smoothly to the rigging line. The friction bollard is approximately 2 inches wide, for a good bend radius on your rope. Simply pull an un-loaded rope back through to rest the system for the next load.
Mid-line attachable, with a swinging side plate that locks in place with visual and audio confirmation. Rock's outstanding swivel top keeps the DownRigger aligned with the rigging load. The top swivel eye will work with your favorite rigging slings, and is machined to be rope-friendly. Built in the USA with the expertise you've come to expect from Rock Exotica.
The DownRigger accepts ropes from 12.5 to 14mm (1/2" to 9/16"), and is rated to 31 kN (7,000 lbf) with a 1.33 kN (300 lbf) working load limit.

An F-Ing genius

Not a piece of equipment to be abused or used for negative block rigging, but when exercised this piece WLL BLOW your mind. I underestimated the capability of this device. A must have for expediting work safely and efficiently. Especially for having someone on the ground who may not have much experience rigging. C’est magnifique

I was pleased to see the final version of the Downrigger become available in 2024. Another clever device from the mind of Jaime Merritt, the originator of the Akimbo, the Downrigger showcases his innovation once again. When Jaime and Rock work together, great things happen.
The Downrigger almost makes me use the word I hate—"best"—but that being said, it is currently my favorite aerial friction device. It can also be used at the base of the tree. It allows the climber to easily control the descent of 300-pound limbs and features both low- and high-friction configurations. Coupled with the signature Swivel that Rock is known for, the rope runs true. It’s also easy to pull the rope back up once the load is removed.
Put this on a ½" Yalex pocket sling, and you’re set.
