Tree Climbing Spikes

Tree Climbing Spikes are useful in tree removal and spar work. Also called 'climbers' or 'spurs', these are essential tools for removals. The spikes cause damage to the tree, so they are not recommended for pruning. WesSpur stocks a huge selection of tree spur climbers, pads, gaffs, and accessories. Our spur climber selection guide can help you choose the right spurs.

Tree climbing spikes on this page come with spur climbers and all the pads and straps needed for a complete set. (Also available with pole gaffs.) Many manufacturers make spur climbers with bespoke pads and gaffs, that are not interchangeable with other pads. Examples include Distel climbers, Notch Geckos, or Edelrid Talons.

Climbers Only is the category for buying tree or pole climbers without pads and straps. Useful for folks who already have spur climber pads and straps and are upgrading their irons, or who want to build their own tree climbing spikes.

Pads and Straps is where we sell replacement climber pads and upper & lower straps. Keep your spikes in top shape with fresh straps and pads, or build your custom tree climbing spikes.

Gaffs & Parts for all brands of tree and pole climbers. Replacement gaffs, gaff sharpening kits, screws, sleeves, and all other spur climber repair parts are found here.

Tree Climbing Spikes, Spurs, Gaffs, or hooks?

Tree climbing spikes, climber hooks, climbers, spurs, irons; there are a lot of terms for a pair of tree spurs!

"Gaff" refers to the spike of the spur only. Spurs are useful in removals, especially spar work. Spur climbing damages trees, piercing their protective layers and opening pathways for disease and insects to further damage the tree. Don't use your spurs on a tree unless you're removing it.
